Stereo Size

Post by CarlaRWG »

My 1980 Fiat Spider came with no radio, so I want to install one. Checked Best Buy and Circuit City and the only thing available was 1 cheap model and a marine model. Can anyone tell me the size that will fit? As best I can fiqure it's 7x7x2

Shaft mount is what you need for a stock hole but if it is blank
is there a plate that can be removed where the radio belongs ?
I have Cut out the Radio in the past for a few Spiders to accept
A Din size ( thats the normal Radio size now ) you need a Air
Saw or Tin Snips and some way to mark it before hand .

Carla, found this guys pictures through a search on Mirafiori.com:

Don't know how much help they'll be.

Same guy did a MDF+laminate dash update (thought you'd like to see his work since you are doing this too, right?)

He has a green fiat too!

anyway, I'll be trying to get one in sometime soon as well (we always seem to be working on similar things....) 7x2 for the opening is the DIN size, so we are both set there. I don't know if they came that way (I suspect not) but the next question is whether or not the hole is deep enough, you got 7" when you measured, so I guess that's good enough. next question is how the thing mounts. If you expect it to mount only on the face I don't think that piece is sturdy enough with as little metal left as there is. I can see a metal piece in the middle of the back hanging down to support some of the weigh too.

Now, here's my advice: I say get whatever you want. Your face opening is fine, it's all about making sure it's on there good and I have faith that it will be an easy thing to do.

I used to install Car stereo's for a living and would do some here and their
for a Fiat shop i know .
The tool i used to cut the metal made it easy for me but the space
behind the radio was tight all the time !
The is a trim plastic kit you can buy to slide over the sleeve to hide any
gap's that might be showing if hole is a bit to big it's a nice touch and
only 5 to 10 bucks .
