Rubber under the seats/on the body

Not sure exactly why it's there, but when I stripped out everything from inside the '78, there was this coating rubberish stuff on the body - i'm guessing for water protection?

Anyways, I'm removing it since i'm getting the car painted, and need to know the best way to get it all off.

normally for rust protection and noise dampening, try using a hair dryer to melt then scrape it off <--others please input...

i had better luck getting it cold and chipping it off with an air chisel. faster and less mess than heat. it is common to have rust on the edges of sound proofing.

Blow dryer inspired me to use a heat gun, which works wonders when using a scraper on that crap.

Some have used dry ice and a hammer. When it is frozen that way it delaminates easily and chips off in large chunks leaving no residue. Good luck.

Second the dry ice. There are companies here that will do it for you with a big nozzle. It is now the standard way to strip off undercoating, as it doesn't damage pipes, hoses etc.
