79 2000 Wiper fuse

My wiper fuse keeps blowing. It has worked fine for over the last year. I have had problems with the rust on the wiper shafts. I have had to clean and loosen them a few times over the last year. I'm sure the motor has been working rather hard for a while.

Could the motor going bad make the fuses continually blow?

Where do I start here? How do I check if the motor is good?

Is the fuse blowing immediately or after a few seconds. try lifting the wipers off the windshield and see if it still blows the fuse. also try a little wd-40 or a spray lube on your pivot stems and see if that help. My guess is if you dont have a short in a wire, your motor is tired and pulling too much of a load.

The fuse blows immediatlely after I turn the key on.

The wipers are turned off, the heater fan is turned off. I put in a new fuse turn the key on and I can hear it blow as soon as it gets power.

Any thoughts?

dead short to ground somewhere...
Chaffed wire, pinched wire, bad switch... It's difficult to find sometimes, all you can do is check recent work, trace wires, start disconnecting stuff, until you find which part of which circuit is the problem.

I will start disconnecting stuff and plugging in fuses tonight.

Sounds like I might be going through a few fuses.

There are 4 wires going to the wiper motor.

Do any of these wires have power running through it even when the wiper switch is in the off position, but not when the key is off?
