New Custom Made Spider Badge

Post by SpiderJim »

Just made this new badge for my new restoration. measure 8" long 3/16" thick. I'm really pleased with how it came out. Stole the idea off an Ferrari Spider.... So I had better make a bunch as I'm sure someone will nick them!!. I made mine much bigger so I can place them behind the front wheels

For my car they will both be gun metal to match my wheels.

The one shown is the master that I use to manufacture them so not in color as yet.

Looks great! Ill take 2 in Black :)

Back in the early 90's I had a blue spider and worked at the Mitsubishi Dealer and ordered 2 SPYDER emblems off the 3000gt and put them on from fenders too bit a bit lower.

Looks cool, I thought it was strange that nowhere on the outside does it say Spider.

I'll see how they reproduce and if no issues could make them by request and in different colors but will have to be late April so I can finish my restoration. I think they will be straight forward unlike some of the emblems that I make which are much tougher to do.

I was head of advanced technology research & development for a large tech company. We built all kinds of prototypes of future technologies and had a huge model shop with the latest gizmos to build stuff with. So learned a lot from my guys plus my brother was a tool & die maker. I just enjoy each challenge and make it fun. If I can sell a few units to cover the expensive development cost then I'm happy.

here the right thread :-)

Hi Jim,

this spider badge looks fantastic!

Actually I have been looking for a proper Spider badge quite a while - as i drive a Spider 2000 it would be a nice addition to the rear 2000 badge I have on the car - You did ask for feedback re size - for me 8" is the max. - so it would be fine in any size 6-8" -- And - do you have the possibility to create it with a chrome finish? Take your time, I have been waiting 19 years so there is no urgence... on the other hand: I want it now! :-)

ciao,
Stefan

best I can do is pre spray the tool with that chrome paint then cast into it. Other colors I can mix the resins so it is solid. Just not set up at home for vapor plating. I mean what would the toxic police think of that having one at home.

O.K. That is way cool.I took all badges off in my restoration. That is worthy! The gun metal wheels you mentioned. They from Mark in Cali? Rota wheels? Just got a set for my '78. I need a set of spider badges when you are ready. Just getting back to fixing after a few years off.

I will be back to reproducing all the badges/caps etc at the end of April. I have to focus on finishing my new restoration. Contact me then with colors and whatever you need.... Thanks Jim

While I was too sore from my LA scavenging trip I decided to try a horn button restore. Found I need a chemical that will take the paint off and not attack the plastic but it came out ok but lost the spider web effect.

Try buffing with a plastic lens polish from your local auto supply.

I like that Jim. I will want one as soon as figure out the color schemes. I think it would look nice on the glove box door. I'm not going to have any decals or badges on the outside of the car.

Cool idea Brady did not think of that. Just let me know. Will be making them late April when I'm done with the restoration.
