Work to date

Post by C2 »

New paint, wheels, cloth top, chrome shifter knob, wood dash and trim, JBL stereo and speakers, Used Ricaro seats, interior was beige now black, So Col Mark's headers and exhaust, K&N air intake.
Told my wife this would be cheaper than a new BMW Z Roadster. Keeps me out of trouble. I have had this car for two and a half years and have put about 1000 kms on it. Today I went about 70 kms. My longest trip yet.

Good looking car! Trey's right, these cars were made to be driven. Shoot, last year I did 1000 KM in one trip. (I will admit though, that I ended up towing it home.) It's not a record, I know, why I even heard a rumor about a couple going on an 8000 mile trip last summer. Probably just a rumor though.
Thanks for the pics, nice work.

The seats were in a Lancia. They are Recaro, and I had them re-upholstered. They have a seat extension that comes out for Highway driving. The wheels are Tecnomagnesio 15 inch. The tires are Dunlop SP Sport 205/50 (front) 225/50 (rear). This a little to wide, but I got a good deal on them.
The car runs fine. The odometer reads 28903 miles. I do not think this is correct. It is a little rough idling. The engine does sound as goon as the the exhaust. Just some minor tweaks to do for this year.
I am planning to just drive as is this summer and do some engine work in the winter. I am thinking of upgrading the brakes also. Nice Tarbox calipers.
I have been kicking around the idea of going up to Penticton in June. When ever I read about other people's trips they all seem to end with a tow truck. I think that is why I have not gone too far.

I know what you mean. Take the Hope Princeton, more tow trucks on that route. The drive after Manning Park is a gas in the fiat ti'll Princeton untill you come up against a land yacht bunging up the road.

C2,after putting the head back on Fri. and Sat. I went for a spin today. I think I found the secret to avoid tow trucks.
I grabbed a small/large tool bag and filled it with assorted 1/2, 1/4 and 3/8 drive sockets. An assortment of spanners,screw drivers,small hammer,spare dist.,gaskets, box knife,jack,fender covers,oil , coolant,rags,electrical connectors,flashlight,cell phone and some other stuff I can't remember at the moment.
Well it worked,5 Kms along I guess I did'nt tighten a clamp on a rad. hose and coolant started to come out. 10 sec fix and made it to Kelowna saw some of the hill climb and drove back.... no issues(160 kms). Now I have to take that crap out of the trunk.

Chris - I think that's a great idea and a good discipline to adopt. I have three different packing lists for the track, for rallies and for Fiat outings. It's peace of mind in a bag (or the truck) :D

Your car looks great!

Can you tell me how you installed the seat belts? What did you tie into for the top two points of the harness? Are they the retractable style?

Thanks for the info!

If I packed that manny items, I would not have room for golf clubs. A trip to the interior includes bringing home wine.
The seat belts are bolted to the original seat belt retractor location. There is a buckle that the shoulder straps buckle into behind the head rest. They are not retractable. Here is a picture. How do I include a picture in this reply?

Fine looking vehicle. When I see what you fellows have to show off, I realize that I'll have to get some paint on mine before any of you get to see it

I agree that is the way to avoid the tow truck. Take everything possible along and it will usually behave. Take nothing and it is sure to fail. This weekend when I took my wife for a nice drive I even had a can of gas and an extra battery (and cables) parked in the trunk, along with all the usual tools... I figure that way I can persist in vainly trying to restart the car and then still be able to do some rational diagnosis after the first battery is dead
