Front Seat Replacement and carpets

Post by tonyfromjersey »

So, we're riding in the car the other day and my wife says "these seats are terrible, you should replace them" or something to that effect. I've been looking around, and have seen and heard that Mini Cooper seats are a good fit, also Honda seats. The back seat is fine, for my two small kids, so I don't want to put in a set of those high back racing seats. Any recommendations on what works best. I was looking on eBay and found a great looking set from a Civic for not too much money. Also, does the back seat from a Mini fit as well as the front? I found a full interior from a Mini on eBay as well.

Second, should I do the carpets myself or outsource that one? Any good sources of carpet?

Now that the car is running fairly well, I'm on to body work and interior. Work work work, but I want to get after all this over the winter so she looks great for the springtime.

why not just buy some new foam and a vinyl kit and restore what you have?

and, i bought i/o carpet meant for a pontoon boat and cut my own carpet tracing from the factory pieces. i had a seamstress stitch the edges so the parts wouldn't fray.

Mike, they seem to be broken internally. I can get a set of seats from a Honda Civic for 35 bucks. I talked to an upholstery guy today (former neighbor) who want to take the original seats apart and fix them so I may go that route. He also wants me to supply the carpet set (he's familiar with the car he's done a few) and he'll fix the seats and install carpet. I may go that route instead of seat replacement, since I'd have to make new tracks, etc for the Honda ones.

Have to see what the boss thinks, too. All of a sudden she's showing more than passing interest. Must be now that I've got it running somewhat reliably she sees the potential. Also wants a say in paint colors, etc. I may have to install a deadbolt on the garage door.

Tony,

Don't fret, the carpet installation was very simple, I used this Ebay mechant as the source for the carpet:

You can see the carpet installed on my son's Spider in the link below, I also installed it on my Spider, it looks great and forms easily and the bonus is that it does not move around like the old original carpets.

Tony,
I read a post on http://www.miafiori.com that states that 89-91 Honda Civic seats are a perfect fit in the 124.The holes for the tracks and the threads are the same as the Fiat.A true bolt in. It is in the ''tips'' section on the home page.

Nick, do you have updated links from the 1st page? Those are dead. Or are they the same pics posted on the 2nd page? If you hve any more pics, please post a link.

FYI, this is exactly what I invision the way I would want my interior, even down to the ashtray delete. Perfect!

Since I host the photos of any and all my projects on my webserver site it's limited to 10megs, so I have to remove photos in order to post the other photos, I can repost the photos briefly for those wishing to see the other images.

Yes the interior is much nicer without the ashtray although it was left to add a cup/change holder for the future, on my Spider the ashtray openeing will be removed completely and the area by the door which holds the small wedge of carpet will be a map pocket holder similar to the what the Ferrari California GT250 door has.

Thanks. I have located a set of really nice Honda seats on craigslist that pretty much match my non-stock interior and are in prefect shape. I will be selling my stock seats in early spring, for someone who is motivated enough to take them apart and fix them up.

I located a carpet supplier I don't think I've seen mentioned on this website yet, its: http://www.stockinteriors.com and they are cheaper than Bruce's or International Auto by quite a bit. Anyone have an experience with them?
