pininfarina 1984 not starting

I just got a 1984 pininfarina and it does not start up. There is no nothing that turns up, nothing electrical lights up just no the key turns but nothing happens. I replaced the battery for a new one bus still the same. What should be my next step to test out?

Examine the white multi-pin connector under the dash that mates with the ignition switch pigtail. Just about every electrical load goes thru the ignition switch, unlike most cars. Look for a burnt connector, mating pins or wires.

update
reconnecting some cables under the passenger's dashboard and any other cables that were loose it now clicks but car does not start. The band now spins but no spark or any electronics turn on.

If I understand you correctly, when you turn the ignition key to the second "Start" position, the starter motor spins, but the car will not start?

When you turn the ignition switch to the first position, do you see any electrical activity? Red warning light in the instruments? Fuel gauge responding? Turn signals work?

hard to believe but my most recent issue is with the ignition. the car runs fine, turns over and starts normally, but when I turn the ignition switch off, the car continues to run !! I have consulted our friends at Vicks, they recommended that I disconnect the two white connectors just down stream of the switch to isolate the switch itself, but no joy, it kept running .. recommendations on where to look next?

no electrical activity either no lights or gauges engage

Consider joining mirafiori.com this allows access to their library. Once in the library read and/or download Fiat publication:
"Spider 2000 Electrical Diagnostic Manual 1980-1981" This manual has most of the wire diagram for your car, circuit explanations and troubleshooting suggestions. It is an excellent Fiat publication. Wire diagrams for 1983-1985 are also available in the library.
