Hi all, I recently got a new Robbins canvas top for my BS1 and will be installing it in the next couple weeks. When I bought my Spider years ago the top was gone and the frame was in a box, so I didn't see how the old one came off. I have a copy of the factory instructions which are pretty good except for the pictures, and I have Chris Obert's writeup which is also very informative but no pictures. I have a few questions before I get started and would sure appreciate a little tribal knowledge from the guys that know.
1 - Does the rear flap below the window with the stiffener in it need to be glued to the inside of the rear hold down bar, or will it stay put on its own when the bar is secured?
2 - The window flaps on both sided have fairly thick padding in them. Does the rivets in the forward and rear of the flaps go through that padding?
3 - On the forward inside surface of both window flaps, there is what looks like a pocket sewn into the canvas material. Sewn on three sides but open on the rear edge, almost like it was made to have some type of stiffener slid into it. I can see no need for something like that but the "pockets" look pretty deliberate. Any ideas?
Any thoughts from Forum members would really be great.
Mike
