Convertible Top Frame mounts

Hi all. I'm getting close to completing restoration of my '72 CS1, and the convertible top is my next step. This project has been going on (and off) for almost 6 years now, and when I found it on Ebay it was apart and in boxes for the most part. Anyway, I've cleaned up and reassembled the top frame assembly and trying to get it mounted to the body. In the baggie of hardware with the frame pieces were two metal spacers or washers, approx 8mm thick. Every thing I've been able to find via manuals and web searches alludes to shims being used when mounting the two frame brackets. Having never noticed on other 124's, I don't know if they belong or not. Can anyone tell me whether spacers are typically when attaching the convertible top mounting brackets? And if so, would they go behind the top or bottom mounting hole? Any help would sure be appreciated.
