wind noise !

now here is an interesting one.....................
with the top up, the wind noise is very bad. I have deduced that this noise comes from the ribbing down the sides of the canvas top between its top and its bottom of the hood where it meets the bodywork.
If you observe the side of the car it is clear that the wind rushing past the sidewindows will hit this ribbing of the top and will cause noise.
I have tried to prove this by taping up the space between the outer of this ribbing and the glass of the window.
Anyone like to commment on this?

There are cables that run along that area. Could yours be lose or broken?

no, it is not that. I am talking about where the top runs down the back of the triangular window.
(I would post a picture but life is to short to go through the required process).
You will know it if your top is original because it will be very weathered

On some of my Fiats, there is a Velcro pad attached to the sloping rear part of that triangular window, and a corresponding Velcro pad with the "hooks" that is attached to the top. I guess the idea is to press those two together (closed) when the top is up. One on each side of course. However, mine have never worked very well, and I just accepted the wind noise as part of the fun of a convertible.

Yeah! What Bryan said,...! My canvas top has Velcro at the back of the rear, side windows. It helps seal the convertible top to the back of the window-frame, if the Velcro grips. Mine loosens when the top is put down, and must be re-sealed when the top is up. So I just let it fall into place,...
Considering that it's a convertible, I don't notice any wind noise that I wouldn't expect from this area. Sounds like geoff might be experiencing loud wind noise,...could an old, or worn, top cause this?

yep, its not a big problem, just that it is less noisy with the top down than with it up and I think all it would need is a nice smooth transition of the wind from the glass to the hood.
No big deal, but if I come up with something I will be sure to let you know.

No really bad noise when the velcro is holding well. When its misaligned then yes it does get worse. Sometimes you have to stretch the top the get is attached properly which get more difficult as the top ages and starts to shrink.

When my son use my Spider while his car was broken he put duck tape in that area. He hates noisess and will go to a lot of trouble to get rid of rattles and wind noise.

yes, I put (we call it duct tape) along that leading edge and it worked. I was trying to get some sensible discussion on this topic when i introduced it. It IS a problem and althoughduct tape is not an answer the truth remains that the car is quieter with thetop down than with the top up - and that is not right !
The leading edge of the closed top near the rear quarter panels causes noise.
