FI hose and pressure

So...sorting out the FI lines on the car. I get that the hose used on the pressure side, after the pump, to the rail, to the injectors, needs to be the serious high pressure stuff. But what about the hose on the return side? And the hose before the pump? Surely the pressure is nothing like the crazy 75-100lbs after the pump...right?
Ordered some 11.1mm hose from the local box parts guys and when I went to pick it up I read it was but for 35lbs. Thought that would not work. But now I'm thinking it will work for the hose BEFORE the pump. And same for the 7.9mm hose that comes off the metal return line back to the gas tank; do I really need high pressure hose for that?
Hope that is making sense.

The normal fuel pressure in these systems is in the mid to high 30's.

Well...the Gates hose from AR is rated at 225lbs, way more than we need, but that's okay. The Gates hose from amazon is seven feet long and does not list its pressure rating.
But still looking for an answer to the hoses that are before the pump and the return line.

I am interested too,The hose going from the tank to the fuelpump, , Wonder if that needs to be pressure rated or just gas line not rated for FI. NAPA had the 8mm FI line but not the 7/16ths rated for FI. Before the pressurization I woulld think it okay?

The return lines and the hose before the pump can be any fuel line that is rated for e15 fuels. I would buy the hose before the pump from one of the Fiat vendors, because of the tight bends regular hose will kink over time. Ask me how I know this, then you will be setting on the side of the road.

Yes you do have to find a balance and support your local economy along with the vendors who sponsor the forums.

I know, Tim. I was making a general statement about the suppliers needing our support, sorry it came out like a dig at you. Not intended. We certainly have bought a lot from them over the years!

None taken, For parts, I will go nowhere else but the FIAT vendors, I trust them. Hoses, screws, bulbs, fuses can be had at the local parts store. The question raised, I am doing the same with the rubber fuel lines, Is the hose from NAPA 11mm before the pump need to be FI pressure rated line? I coud go into my thought process here, but I won't, No the hose does not need to be FI hose, So the hose I bought from NAPA is good to use before the pump. Gates 4219XL 11.1MM OR 7/16" SAE30R7 After the pump use 8mm hose rated for FI bought at NAPA.

Hi all, this post is very appropriate for me now. I'm in the process of putting my '81 Spider FI back together and decided to replace all the rubber fuel hoses. They look to be in relatively good shape but since I don't know when last they were done and I have the pump, filter and tank out, I plan to replace the hoses. I'll also replace the ones in the engine compartment as well as the original worm clamps since these damage and weaken the ends of the hoses.
Anyway, my question is if anyone can tell me the total length of hoses I should be ordering for the 5/16" fuel injection high pressure hoses and the 7/16" tank to pump hose. Also for the non pressure return hoses.
If someone can give me an estimate of these lengths, it would be much appreciated. Thanks.
