After three years of hemming and hawing I finally relented and bought a 1982 Spider 2000 as a rolling project while I'm (slowly, very, very slowly) working on a 71 MG Midget.
The Fiat is in decent running shape and mainly needs cosmetic work. A new top is first on the list. (Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated). Waiting for the weather to get a little warmer because right now the car can only be driven with the top down. In the meantime, doing some research on the history of the car and reading some repair / owner manuals.
I think the color is Alpine white and seems original. The burgundy interior is in pretty decent shape but from a few google searches it seems to be a little harder to get replacement parts for than black or tan. (the drivers side door and seats have some damage as does the center console)
Car has 103K on it. Imported by Crown Pontiac / Sportscars in St. Petersburg and it appears that it was sold to a buyer in Louisiana. Not a lot of records available for the time period he (or she) owned it, but it was brought to Maryland in 1993 with 100,139 miles on it. The two owners didn't put a lot of miles on it, but had some maintenance on it replacing suspension and braking components. From the records it seems that the parking brake and overheating were recurring problems.
The owner of the garage that I use in Annapolis bought it a few years ago with the plan to restore it for another client but those plans did not come to fruition. After sitting on his lot for three years, and needing something fun to drive, I ended up buying it from him.
I'm not particularly smart or technically adept, but I'm persistent so be prepared to see a bunch of dumb questions coming your way.
Cheers,
Johan
