Tachometer not working

The tachometer on my 1980 Fiat spider only works properly when the engine warms up. Any suggestions? The wires all look like they are connected right.

If you feel the wiring is and connections are ok I would try another tachometer. Is there a fellow Fiat owner in your area that would let you swap tachometers to see what happens.
