Side Emblems

Post by fiat77 »

Hi all. I have a 77 124 Spider and it has recently come out of the body shop with new paint. Unfortunately, the holes for the side Pininfarina emblems were mistakingly covered, so the guy doing the work wasn't sure afterwards where the correct placement was. (He was kind of an idiot). I want to get the new emblems put on and am wondering if any of you have access to the 'blueprint' showing where they should go or can otherwise help me figure out the correct placement. Thanks!

One way you can check for the hole locations is to remove the inner side panels that flank the back seat and then peer down into the cavity. You should see some sort of filler squished through into the cavity. Where the filler squished through would be the location of the mounting holes - 2 per side in vertical alignment. One could then figure out a way to use some sort of device to scratch, tap, drill, whatever from the inside at those locations. Use caution as you don't want to damage your new paint beyond the boundary of the original holes. FYI - that cavity is a tight space.

If that does not pan out for you, I could email some photos with measurements showing center of badge to wheel well and center of badge to rocker panel - just let me know.

Those emblems are also available with an adhesive backing that can be applied over paint, no holes.

Sure - will do it this weekend. I'll send it to you directly if I cannot post the picture here on the forum for some reason.

These dimensions are from flat surfaces. Note that the dimensions for the holes are based off of the bottom of the body panel, NOT the stainless steel trim and NOT the vinyl/rubber gasket.

Feel free to have another forum member validate the dimensions before using them. The URL for the image is https://goo.gl/photos/xvwTgxRQTbXhjJjV9 in case the display image fails.
