Short shifter parts list

Post by 124Fan »

I'd like to try Mark's short shifter on my '77 Spider.

The current shifter is original and the shifting is a bit sloppy, so I assume some stuff is worn.

Aside from the short shifter itself, what else should I order to make sure that I start off with fresh everything?

Thanks,
Sonny

I like the short shifter. I don't know what it will do for your sloppiness though. You might look at your inner shift boot. Mine was quite deteriorated.

Any slop is independent of whether you have a stock or short shifter. The business end that actually mates to the transmission doesn't change as either the stock upper piece or the short shifter attaches to it. Slop comes from worn bushings where the lower rod attaches to the tranny.

I bought marks thru eBay and I'm just wondering if there some other stuff I need with it too?
Or does it just fit in place

No, these parts are for the chrome extension that you are eliminating with the short shifter so you don't need them. The short shifter is held to the lower shaft by allen screws.

Got it all installed. Love it.

zachmac: I ordered that kit anyway. Gave it to my Dad who has a '72 that needs to have those bushings replaced.
