No Turn signals

Post by DaveMarcotte »

So, car running nice after engine rebuild :D First little ride today. My turn signals don't work. Brake lights yes. Lights yes. Hazards yes. Likely just the relay ? Not sure if this is related but curious, under the dash on left side of steering column there or two purple wires going into one purple wire with a female connector not connected to anything? As always appreciate any input.

So the 1977 Spider uses a round flasher behind the ignition switch for the signal lights. It is powered through the fuse closest to the steering column which is fuse 1. The hazards us a square flasher mounted behind the speedometer and is powers all the time, even with the ignition switch off. The power for the signal lights passes through the emergency flasher switch so only one of the flashers can have power at a time.
At the flasher the light blue/white wire goes tot he turn indicator in the speedometer . The Violet wire goes to the steering column turn switch. The remaining wire is gray it is power from the Hazard switch. If you have power on Fuse 1 check for power at the gray wire at the round signal flasher mounted behind the ignition switch.

Thanks for that Spider2081. Power to and from fuse. Power to and from inline fuse to hazards but no power to gray wire at signals? How do I get to the other end of the gray wire aka the hazard relay. Hope it's simpler than taking the dash apart. As usual thanks in anvance!! :D

I know should have posted in electrical section

The gray wire connects the Hazard switch (I believe in your car it is a square switch in the dash) to the round "turn signal" flasher located above and behind the ignition switch. If you do not have power at the gray wire with the ignition switch on at the Turn flasher, in either
position of the hazard switch, you would have to remove the hazard switch from the dash. I think you can pry it out with a flat blade screw driver. Once the hazard switch is out you can check for power into the switch. The light blue/white wire on the switch is power into the switch and in the turn signal position the gray wire is power out of the switch. Maybe someone more familiar with a 1977 cars could help here.

Hope this helps

Much appreciated. That hazard box looked like a pain to change. I pickup some 12v power for the gray wire to get my signals working. Going 3 summer months waiting on an engine rebuilt I think I'll enjoy some driving and get to it this winter. Hope you can help me with an altenator problem I'm having. Will post in the electrical section. Thanks
