Trip recorder knob
Trip recorder knob
I have what might be a silly question... I noticed in the Fiat Spider owners manual it's said never ( bold print) turn it when the car is running. Does anybody have any insight as to why that is so important?

That's strange, I turn mine all the time while driving and have not had problems.

So do I but for some reason they seemed to stress this fact and italicize it! I'm hoping some better Automotive Minds than mine might shed some light on this

Running (as in engine on) makes no sense. Moving (as in speedometer turning) does.

Ineed!
One would think the warning is so as to not strip the gears of the tripmeter if the numbers are already rolling from forward movement.
Just don't pull a Ferris Bueller trying to roll it backwards!
Cheers,

Potential to jamb it up and strip it out. Probably had happened enough times in the early years that they put the bold message in the manual warning about it to mitigate having to repair it for free under warranty.
