Hood Louvers

Post by tedy »

Has anyone seen a successful attempt at cutting hood louvers in an 81 Spider, or do the two bumps make it impossible?

I've seen louvers cut on the bumps. I can't say it improved the looks.

The thought behind the louvers was more to help remove additional heat from performance modifications on the exhaust manifold side of the engine compartment. I agree with you that it would not improve the looks of the car. Most places that can cut louvers charge per louver and it would be a last resort.

This is what the factory rally cars had but I have also seen the same with louvers only.

You gotta be careful with hood openings on cars with the Fiat twin-cam engine. My 131 would stall following an automatic car wash. The reason? Water puddling in the spark plug wells. I had to carry a turkey baster to suck the water from #4 (and sometimes #3).

Ceramic-coat or wrap your exhaust header if you're concerned with under hood temps, but I've crawled in lengthy traffic jams at 95° ambient with no problems; OE radiator and fan.
