Hey Folks,...few questions for the board on my 1980:
1. Drivers door mirror doesn't really adjust using the knob on the interior door panel. It'll wiggle a little, but not positionable at all. I took off the mirror housing and there is a black cable connected and going into the door, attached to the knob i guess. Anyone got a link or a suggestion on how to get this working right?
2. Passenger door rubs the chrome trim on the bottom and sticks opening and closing. Any tips on how to adjust the hinges to get it swinging freely?
3. Passenger door handle on the interior is a real bear to work. You really have to squeeeeze it to get it to pop and it feels like grinding inside. Any suggestions appreciated.
THANK YOU!
Mike

Re: Door help please
For the drivers sider mirror. If you already have the door card off and the mirror off you can examine the cable from the mirrro into the piece that sticks through the door. I've had some success using penetrating fluid or WD40 on the assemply when it was bound in the barrel piece that goes throught the hole in the door. I've been looking for a picture to show the cable connection pice that goes in the door. The alternative would be a new mirror since I think it is all one unit or a used mirror. The good news is that when the mirror adjustemnt was bound i was able to get it in the right place and not worry about it using my fingers on the outside.
The passenger door problems are both related. Since the door is sagging it is also putting more pressure/friction on the assembly requiring more force to get the door to unlatch from the inside. There should be an adjustible black triangular plastic piece on the rear edge of the door that will help pick the door up when closing. However, you need to look real close at the hinge mount on the inside of the door where the door meets the frame. These hinges often crack resulting in a sagging door. The repair is a good welder and kids that wont lean on the door getting in and out of the car. I would yell at my father in law to not lean on the door of my 83' all the time in the early 90's.

Also, are you in the Philly area? I was raised and lived in that area until about 2001. Great roads for a Spider to cruise and a lot of fellow enthusiast. Good luck. Ray

I'm in New Hope...These roads were laid for this car. An amazing area all around, but nice 45mph winding country roads everywhere. I'll look for that plastic piece asap. Sounds like it's on the oposite side of the hinges on the door right?TX82FIAT wrote:Also, are you in the Philly area? I was raised and lived in that area until about 2001. Yes opposite side of the hinges.
New hope is great, nothing like driving along the river and crossing the Delaware. Still have family in Newtown/Yardly.
