Post by andreoz »

Hi Guys
Quick question: is it possible that Spider 1972 with 1.8 (1756) ccm engine fitted? All we know that this engine arrived to our car in 74, two years later. Owner 1972 Spider with that engine telling me that is oryginal engine. Can somebode help me with that?

That car came with a 1608.

Not a remote chance for the 1800. Does it have 4 holes in the top of the head for the air pump antler and air pump brackets and drive pulley? That is a 1974 and later emission control device.

I can't see why not, many people have but them in the past?

Assuming a normal 1800 without all the pollution gear it will fit, you may have to run a block mount dizzy if there is no room up top.

You also do have a choice of running a 2L cross member which is lower if you need more room.

If a 72 has an 1795cc engine, it is not original
1979 Spider 2000 (gone)
1984 Pininfarina Azzurra (for sale)
1982 Spider 2000 (here to stay)

If we were talking about a US car then I agree. BUT, we are talking about a European car ( I assume since the poster is in Poland) and Fiat did start making the 1800 engine and putting it into cars in 1973 so not impossible. Improbable but not impossible. Maybe its an Abarth engine!

the VIN will give us a better clue, I believe the BS would have 'normally' come out with a 1608. Our BC coupe down under had a 1400 option as well carried over from the AC/AS model as well as single carb option. Wasn't that common though. Our BC's never came out with an 1800 from FIAT here.

I even think there was a 15XX cc motor that came out for the under 1600 tax rules in Europe.
