Hi,
I'm trying to decide if it's worth upgrading my carburetor on my '77. Currently running a 32 ADFA. Question: how much of an upgrade is the 34 ADF or the 32/36 DFEV? I'm planing on a new exhaust as well. Mine's a 4-1, Vick's 4-2-1 header and pipes seem well prices but love to hear from someone that has installed a set as I know you get what you pay for. Note: engine is stock with 74,000 miles. Thanks,
Carburator upgrade?

Wouldn't think a header is necessary unless you do plan on other performance upgrades. A stock 4-2-1 manifold is worthwhile however and not expensive.

Re: Carburator upgrade?
I have a 4-2 manifold for sale. I have a 77 California car with the exhaust under the passenger seat, and I was going to use it with a 79 downpipe, but because the 2000 engines are taller it's gonna be a lot of messing around to get it to work. If you're interested let me know. One of the downpipe stud mounting holes is stripped out, but I should be able to get to welded and rethreaded.DaveMarcotte wrote: I'm having a heck of a time locating a 4-2-1
Also, my car came with a 32/36 DFEV and I like it well enough, but if I were to pick one personally it would be either a 34ADF or a set of IDF's (which is what I'm going to do eventually).

Thanks but I'll holdout for 4-2-1 as there's not cat on the car so unless I'm mistaken, an earlier 4-2-1 should fit without a retro fit. I think I'll order a Chinese 34ADF from ebay price is right.ebrown0104 wrote:I have a 4-2 manifold for sale. Re: Carburator upgrade?
The manifold I have will work on your car, you would just need the downpipe from a non-convertor car like this: http://www.autoricambi.us/product/EX5-4 ... r-1973-74/.
I'll even throw in a brand new downpipe gasket!

That's what I did with my '77. Found the 4-2-1 , '79 down pipe and 3 bolt test pipe all on ebay and routed along the passenger side of the car. Low budget new exhaust system.

Dave,
Just chiming in. Electronic ignition, 34ADF, 4-2-1 Exhaust and you'll be flying. Cheapest way to get more get up and go. One last thing, a lightened flywheel.
Then when you get tired of the 4200 RPM's at 70 MPH switch out the rear to a later 3.90 and drop the RPM's to 3800. So much better around town in 3rd gear too.
Good luck.

I installed a Pertronix Ignitor ignition and then took it right out. Shuddered like crazy at 2500rmp? Thinking of spending the bucks on a distributorless if anyone ever get stock! Maybe a light flywheel for a next winter project also upgrade the brake
