Lulu sets discounts - if you want the hardcover you can get 25% off today:

http://www.lulu.com/home use "READERS25" when you check out. Makes it cheaper than the Amazon softcover version I think.

Today its 20% and free shipping, which amounts to about 24%.

So you all know, I don't set the discounts. You can go to the lulu.com homepage and the discounts change daily. Same with Amazon, I don't control what they sell the softcover for, sometimes its over $40, sometimes its around $37. No logic to it and they don't ask!

Brad,
The book is really well thought out. I have enjoyed it and will use it to try and dial in my carb once the car is put back together.

I got the book for Christmas and find it very helpful and easy to follow. (If, it would only do something about the single digit temp's we have been having, I could put it to use!)
Also, received a book called Fiat 124 spider performance portfolio that is a collection of magazine articles about the 124 over the years of production. I am "grooving" on the photos taken in the 1960's. Wish, I could remember that era

Just got mine in the mail this past week. Just reviewing tuneup section before I start my first major tuneup.
Question: Section 16.3.3 "Engine timing" has an illustration of the crankshaft pulley and timing marks on the left side. My yellow belt cover has them on the right (same orientation) TDC (longest line on the bottom). Next one up 5 degrees and the top one would be 10 degrees. Have I got that right?

Brad,

I received your book as a Christmas present and it's a welcome addition to my stash of info. However, I have found something you might want to look into regarding the cooling system. On page 172, you mention that all cars later than 1969 had the external thermostat. However, this does not appear to be the case for the 132 series engines. I have the official shop manual and it shows for my 1973 USA version 1592cc (132 AC.040.3) a cross sectional view that very clearly shows the in-head thermostat. It also shows different coolant passages in the head for all of the 125 engine variants with the external thermostat. My shop manual doesn't go beyond 1974, but the 1974 132 A 1.040.4 (1756cc) also shows the internal thermostat. Perhaps all the 132 engines have internal thermostats? Mine even has the oddball integral thermostat-in-housing arrangement.

I would be reluctant to switch to an external thermostat if the cylinder head does not have the additional passage to the area once occupied by the thermostat on 132 engines. What are your thoughts?

My car does not overheat at all, but there are some odd temperature fluctuations when using the heater that do not occur otherwise.

Thanks,
Brian
