Not starting and no spark

Post by omegaorion »

I have a problem...my car won't start anymore. It started out being a fuel line problem, but I got that fixed. But now, I have no spark in the plugs. I've taken it all the way to the ignition coil, and I have no power coming out of it. The starter works just fine. In my rewiring of the dash, I've noticed that the ignition switch is not the original that was in the car, as well as a couple of the wires going from the switch to the ignition coil and other places that have been replaced and I'm not sure they are connected right. Mainly, my question is, do I need to find an original ignition switch to get things working right? I'm wondering if I messed something up when I reconnected a couple wires to the ignition switch to get my headlights working. I'm also wondering if I should backtrack by disconnecting some of the lights and dials in the dash, but I don't know how far to go back. What do I absolutely need connected in the dash and lighting-wise to turn the car on? Any help with this would be amazing. When I rewired my Escort, it was simple because it had all the original parts and wiring, but the patchjob that a PO did on my Fiat is really messing with my head.

all you need is power to the + side of the coil. Try running a jumper wire from the + side of the battery to the coil and see if it starts. It sounds like you don't have the ign switch connected properly

Okay. I put in the jumper wire and it fired right up. Now my question is, do I need the ignition switch that is normally in the car or can I continue to use this autozone brand that I have in the car? I'm going to work on rewiring it with what I have, but let me know what you think. Thanks!
