Dashboard Replacement vs Cap vs Recover

Hi All,

I live in Eastchester, NY and I recently purchased a 1977 124 Spider and I have a nasty crack right in the middle of my dashboard. I don't really want or have the funds to sink $400 - $500 bucks on a replacement. I have tried contacting several restoration shops which strongly recommend against repairing/filling the crack as they say it will just come back and it will not look good. I have seen many before and after pics on the web that do look good, just don't know what to believe. As for the caps, I have heard good and bad stories, but I have never actually seen one on. I have heard they just pop up hear and there, which I would really not be happy with. Lastly, I was wondering if anyone has ever re-covered a dash in vinyl? I found one place that does this professionally, but quoted me a price of $1,100 to do the work (WHAT!!!). I am not looking to put my car in the Concours d'Elegance... I just want to make it look good without spending a ton of cash. I know, that may not be possible, so just checking to see what others have done and for how much.

Does anyone know of any good Fiat Spider Clubs in the Westchester, NY area?

Cam

I went with the plastic dash and consoles. not as expensive as OEM style but a lot more money than a cap. I am plenty happy with the fit and finish.

Thanks for the input. Unsure where I will land or if I will just learn to live with what I have, but will post an update if I replace anything.
