Back on the road from the Backup Switch

Post by gigi »

Today, Gigi's coming home, again, from Chapter 5482, Back-Up-Switch.
Tried bringing her home last week, but I got pulled over for the tail
light being out. I'm so excited that she is coming home! Anyway, during
the traffic stop, I turned off the engine to save fuel (yes, I am cheap, and
idling eats fuel.) So the police officer gives me the repair order and drives
off. Gigi doesn't want to start! Ha ha! Who couldn't have guessed that.
Her way of saying, "*&%$# You!" So we walked home and thought it thru.
On the way out to the store for a battery, we stopped at the car and gave
her another lookover-she started just fine when I left the shop and when
we left earlier that night. In the pitch-dark, with the trusty Maglite, again
she came back to life. Thank goodness there was enough charge to pop
the trunk button (since the key gets stuck in the lock and doesn't turn).
As it turns out, the battery cable rattled off! Ha! Started right up and
went right back to the shop for the light repair since the State Inspector
had to sign off on the order so her registration wasn't suspended.
Oh yeah, the switch. Long story short, the transmission fell apart,
Coop, the awesome mechanic, put it back together and we're back on
the road! Yahoo! Some bolt on the bottom rattled off somewhere along
Route 50 and she got 'stuck' in whatever gear she was in. Not anymore!

I'm glad you're working the bugs out of Gigi and I applaud you for sticking with her! I've just finished punishing my devil car by leaving him in the front yard without shelter for two days. I sure hopes he decides to act better or I'm going to resort to more tougher treatment.

Way to go Denise! You couldn't have done more better. (Hopefully I can make it to FFO this year and you can slap me then)

Well, finally made it home- the forty minute trip only took two hours.
Guess there's still a few kinks to be worked out.
Oh well, her punishment will be: I'm taking her out and we're going to burn an
entire tank of gas. If she's mad about being stuck in the shop all winter,
she's going out. That's that. We'll ride all over tarnation and get all the
errands done at the same time! While we're out, we're getting a battery.
Maybe we'll even go to the car-wash. We'll visit all our favorite spots along
the way, the gas-station, the vacuum, the hose-sprayer-thing and the beach.
We'll check the waves, turn up the tunes and spend some quality time together.
She's a cranky old lady like me; just time to give her back some of the joy
she's brought to me. Sure hope it's sunny when we wake up!

STOP sigh...STOP sigh...sigh.

We got 12" of snow yesterday. I plowed the driveway last night after work, and again first thing this morning. My "top down" time is still being spent on the tractor with the snow plow attachment.

and, you sit there and torture me with (gilligan's theme heard) a two hour cruise !! You're talking about going to the beach, and I am waxing my snow shovel.

Oh, the pain...the agony of it all !!

Oh man, Sorry-
No intent to inflict such torment-
If it makes you feel any better, we did go out today, but still too cold to have the top down.
Windows down yes, but with the heat full blast and a coat on.
And, the windows wouldn't go down until we got that new battery in.
Amazing there was enough juice to start her up - had her plugged up to a charger all night.

Oh, i feel so much better now.... NOT !!

it was 18 degrees F on my way to church yesterday morning.. and 18 degrees as i got ready for work this morning. The paved surfaces have been scraped clean of snow, but not washed of the permeated cancer causing salt.

My schedule calls for driving my Spider in 3 1/2 weeks..... we need a heat wave and lots of rain between now and then, and I don't see that happening.

Aw - it will rain, I just know it! Monsoon even!
I didn't take her in to work today since they were calling for flurries this morning-
Besides, with Daylight savings time in effect now, summer is just around the corner!
Patience, patience - that's what I tell myself (or try to!)
Just think, pretty soon, we'll be digging out the windshield-shades to keep the
heat out; cracking the windows while parked to ventilate and keep the dash from getting
bigger cracks. I forsee singed leg-skin from scorching-hot seats in the future!
Burnt palms from the steering-wheel! Oh man, Come On Summer!
