I trimmed mine to fit the spoiler. probably not allowed to, but no issues for the past 6 years.

Drilled holes and from a local jobber store, bought suitable sized black plastic trim buttons?

here is what Prunette's PO did.

there are two L plates riveted on the lower side of the upper grille hole (under the stainless steel plate) where the license plate was fixed.

you can see on the following picture the upper part of the L plates which are still in place today.

Chris,
Think there is any chance the police cut you some slack as far as trimming the plate?
Seeing as you are who you are? Fireman...
Just thinking that if I did that I would probably get in a heap of trouble.

Actually I quit the department a couple of years ago and the fire plate has been removed. The next province over ( Alberta) I don't believe it is mandatory to have a front plate. So far I have not had an issue so saying that, when the car is back on the road this weekend, weather and honey-do list permitting  , I suspect I'll be going through a road block and have an issue.

(Red eh...this is my third spider and for some untold reason they all have been red ... :? ) One green one in the shop and a....red  shell outside waiting for an interior and drive train...)

for those of you that do not know.... this is what a colorado plate looks like

Image

and this is what i ended up with....... a little epoxy at the corners and the midddle... very secure but removable with some solvent

Image

we shall see.... actually i believe that it will draw more attention than not having the plate at all..... we will call my anal cop finder

Haha!
Matt, that is pretty clever.
I can't wait to see if the anal Fort Collins cops stop you for that.
My guess is that they won't even notice, though.
Time will tell...
Wish we didn't have to wear the front plate, but it is the law here.

Front plates are required in CA, but so far I have made it 6 or 7 years without one, (knock on wood). Never been pulled over in a Spider, (knock on more wood), maybe they feel sorry for me?

Arizona cops went thru a big fad a few years ago where they were ticketing anyone with license plate frames that blocked the corners where the state label and the tag are. Fortunately, AZ doesnt require a front plate.

Maybe I'm just unlucky, but I got a ticket and live in CA. I bought my spider a few weeks ago, and it didn't come with a front plate from the PO, got a ticket after owning it for only a week. Had it parked on the street at a friends house... came out a few hours later and had the no front plate ticket sitting on the window. 25 bucks is annoying, but not enough to make me get new plates and put on the front plate.
