gittin' tricky

Post by azruss »

Okay, i decided to bite the big one and spring for one of mark's dizzyless ignitions. So this morning, i pulled the dip stick and alt bracket to take to work where i have some tools to work with.
The tricky part is the dip stick will fit in the bottom hole without the extension. You just need to shorten the length. I have done this and it fits great. I will calibrate it when i have the proper amount of oil.
I did modifications on the alt bracket by heating and pounding a dimple in it. The dimple I put in is too big as the alternator end is about 1/2" shy of mating to the alternator. This is easy as the adjustment is just puting in on a good surface and flattening the dimple. I will wait til the part gets here before i do the final bending. I definitely created enough curve in it for clearance. Will post pix when i get the final fit.

I wish they'd use a countersunk screw on the units. That would make doing the bracket adjustment a lot easier. I had to use the heat plus hammer method as well. Tried to do a bend and my vise started pulling out of my workbench.

Here is the preliminary forming on the bracket and the shortened dipstick. I will wait till the unit arrives before a final tweak and paint.
