New seats

Post by BrwnRecluse »

My '78 seats are shot. The upholstery is shredded and the frame in the driver's seat back is broken in three places. So I'm trying something else.
Junkyard seats from a Pontiac sunbird. Need cleaning, but sound and in good shape.

Seat tracks are wider on the fiat, at 15 3/16" centers. Welded in 3/16 x 2" flatbar to make new locations

Original tracks mounted

Comfortable, don't look too bad, do they?

So many non stock seats seem to sit way too high, but what you have done looks good.
Looking forward to seeing them when your finished.

I scored some completely unblemished original leather(ette?) seats from a forum member at a great price that look brand new in my car. That said, after an hour drive in this summer heat it looks like I peed my pants when I get out of the car - soaked in sweat from back to butt. Thinking cloth seats would be so much more comfortable, but A) would they just soak up my sweat, and B) would all that moisture eventually just rust out my floor pans? Maybe time for summertime seat covers.

Got the passenger seat in last week, but had driveability problems that were driving me nuts. Here's the pics

Not completely cleaned yet, but man are they comfy! The passenger side fits a bit more tightly then the driver for some reason. We have to pull it forward to raise the top. May need to adjust the track a little, too, due the the ol' wandering drill bit problem.
