short shift

just wondering if the original shifter is difficult to replace for the short shift. i seen mark has something on his web sight. just wondering if that just a handle or the whole unit?

Hi Jim,

I purchased the Shutt shifter from Mark. I do not have it fully installed yet as I need to make a new wood piece for the console. The leather boot chrome ring base is a bit bigger than the original shifter base, so you either have to modify the original wood console piece or make a new one.

The knob uses set screws to hold onto the inner shift shaft. The leather boot has a small chrome ring at the top that attaches to the bottom of the shift knob with another set of setscrews.

Here are some photos, hopefully they are fairly self explanatory. I am quite happy with the quality and I love the shorter shifts.
The photos are linked to photobucket and it always seems to take like 8 hours for the editing to come thru. The photos have been resized to be 640 wide. You will have to right-click and view image on each photo in case they appear be cut off. It will fix itself later.

did u just cut your handle shift rod off to the proper height and then put the knob on?

Nope, didn't have to cut it.
The inner shifter shaft is quite a bit shorter than the outer chrome shaft. You will see once you take the chrome outer shaft off. The inner shaft slides quite far inside the new shifter knob.

That rite I forgot how they looked, got it now, thanks, i am going to order one next week

I have a different knob now, that one in the pic was discontinued. We do have a few left that are brushed aluminum rather than black. Our kit includes the boot and retainer too.

Can't comment much on the Michigan Short Shifter. I think it is basically a shortened outer shift shaft that slides over the inner shaft. I believe using this style allows you to keep your original shift knob and leather boot.

The Michigan Short Shifter and the one from Midwest may well be the same part and install in exactly the same way. I will check with the supplier.

The Michigan Short Shifter works with your existing knob and boot with no changes. It is a high quality part made of stainless steel.

The set up by Mark is very nice as well and really has a different look from standard, which is not to take anything from it, the boot is very nice and has a great looking retention ring.

Pick what you think will work best for you. I don't think there is a bad choice in any of the three.

yes, we have two different brushed aluminum shift knobs now. One is just like the black one in the previous pics, the other is a more traditional round knob
