TH 200R4/4L30e

I have my 79 Spider running just about the way I want her and I am looking a the 78 Spider in my drive way for my next project. First, I wish I could drive a manual trans but due to a accident in the Marines back in 67 I use a wheelchair for mobility.

I am thinking of making my 78 my next project to keep me busy till next spring, with time off for hunting season. I need to disassemble her and send her to the media blaster to see if I have enough metal to rebuild or weld to.

Now the main question has anybody tried to swap the TH180 for a TH200r4 (more parts and stand alone control) or a 4L30E (intechange bell houseing) into a Fiat 124 Spider. The reason for my interest is I wold like the 4th gear and the lock up convertor

I don't mind doing a little cutting and welding but I wold like to keep it as little as possible

Thank

the only downside to that swap is the 1800 doesn't have nearly the torque of the 2L and isn't the best candidate for an automatic. I'd think seriously about swapping a 2l in at the same time
