recentering steering wheel info needed

My 81 spider's wheel is turned to the 1 o'clock position and I'm waning to center it. Guess the alignment shop the PO was taking it to was too lazy to recenter the wheel after alignment. I've done it on Chevys and such but I would like some "experts" opinion on the right or easy way.

the "easy way" is not the right way. First you have to center the steering box and see where the wheel is. The proper way is to use the adjusting sleeves on the tie rod ends. The easy way is to remove the steering wheel and reinstall it, but that leaves the steering box off center

Yep! You're right, the right way is seldom the easy way. I'll center the box/wheel and adj. the rod ends. I know it's hard on the steering box to run off center. I gott'a mess with it anyhow to take a little slack out of it sooooo "I might as well" comes into play. Gonn'a start soaking 'em with PB Blaster now. Might be ready by the weekend.

If I remember right there should be an alignment mark on the steering wheel and end of the column shaft... at least that is how it was on the stock column on my spider(again what i recall. It has been a while). I now have a Chevy Camaro tilt column in my spider and it has a special notch on it... so the stock steering wheel only goes on one way... I have a Grant Signature series wheel so it will allow you to adjust the alignment. Mark's right, centering the steering box is the first step... then you will be able to see which end is out.
