Shift Foam/Rubber Thingy

The installation of the rubber/foam piece that surrounds the stick shift.
Is it installed as Pic #1 or Pic#2

Picture #1 is correct. If installed as in picture #2 you would never be able to screw down that secondary stamped sheet metal plate.
Just make sure when you do install the metal plate you get a good seal around the perimeter or you may get some fumes in the cabin.

Please excuse the tag on. . .i recently replaced this boot and when i removed the old torn one, the top of the transmission had oil pooled around the base of the shift level. Not much, maybe 15-20cc. Any idea of the source/cause? Thanks, terry
