oil leak

Post by mik »

There is a short 90 degree hose located near and behind the distributor. comes out of the engine block. can anyone identify it for me and where I could locate a replacement? I believe it is the source of my leak, too wet around both clamps. Sorry this belongs in engine and tuning, my mistake.

I'm guessing that you might have an early model car with a block mounted distributor, and if so, then the small L-shaped hose is probably the crankcase breather that connects from the block to the centrifugal oil/vapor separator. I would check with the Fiat vendors to get the hose, and be sure to tell them which engine you have (1438cc ??), and maybe tell them the diameter of the 2 attach points. If they don't have it, I'd go to your local autoparts store with the hose in hand, and see if they can find you a hose to match. They probably won't have it under the computer listing for your car, but they may be able to find a hose to make do. You may have to cut some of the extra length off from one or both ends.

I've had a difficult time locating that hose in the past from the Fiat vendors, but maybe that has changed.

BTW, it's a good idea to get in the habit of telling which car, which engine, and any modifications to the engine when you ask for help on the Forum. Otherwise, we're just guessing.

Alvon, thanks for the feedback, my car is a '69 124 Spider, with a 1438cc. I may have found the part in Vicks auto parts catalog, on page 49. listed as a crankcase vent hose. part 54-1656. I will give them a call to verify just to make sure. I will remember to include more info about my car in my inquiries. Thanks again.
