Decided to join the club. Moved from two springs on one side and one on the other making the trunk unbalance but operative to the gas struts. Used two 40 pound 15 inch struts with 10 mm ball joints and the L brackets on the floor. Quick and easy install.

Out of curiosity do the 40 lb struts lift the trunk lid all the way when the latch is unlocked? Has anyone else used a heavier strut?

They do not. I have a luggage rack. Suspect I could have gone heavier.
