My restriction problem was from connecting the big vapor hose to those little tiny rinky-dink ports that they put on the aftermarket filters. I Tee'd off the big hose to go to both air filters, but even then I had less than half the area of the big diameter hose. It probably didn't create too much of a back pressure though, because I didn't experience any leaks anywhere else, except for the oil that excaped when the dipstick seal opened up -- and like I said, the dipstick seal is too loose.

Look at pictures in some of your manuals. Here is a link from FiatCenter.com that shows schematically: http://volcano.photobucket.com/albums/v ... o_74_2.jpg

And another link from FiatCenter.com showing a picure:

Put the water pump on azz backwards, and you may not need a fan or clutch!! LOL.

I think we've all done a few things backwards now and then. You're not alone.

Rey

Is the fan that your looking for the one that run's off the water pump ?
and is the clutch on the crank pully or the water pump like american
cars ? I've seen the wierd older pully on the crank shaft so that must
be the clutch for a 1438 fan ??
If so i might be able to get a used one for you from a friend that has a
1438 sitting around along with a few other engines .

that is an oil filter on the crank pulley, not a clutch. The fan and clutch that Rey needs goes onto the water pump shaft, held on with a nut and key

Rey, your picture show that the vapors enter the center of the cyclonic trap. The other links suggest the opposite, vapors entering on the outer perimeter, creating a swirling action. Do you see the difference? It may work just as well either way, I don't know. But, if I were you, I would connect it the other way.

chris came over today, we figured we could finally put the engine back in the car and get it running this weekend. had the engine almost in when chris noticed something leaking at the rear of the engine.. we took the engine back out, removed the clutch and flywheel. when we thilted the engine towards the rear, oil poured out at the seal. damn it, if we didnt get the wrong seal. now the weekend is shot.

What a bummer! At least you found the problem before you completely installed the engine.

got him fixed up with the right seal last night, so there's no excuse not to finish it this weekend!
