Re: bumperettes why are they so expensive?
I agree, Mark. And I hope you'll forgive a parallel here:
When I saw your header, I knew I had to have one.
I was disappointed when I learned the price. My first thought was "it's just tube... I can build that". But the more I looked at it, the quality of construction, etc etc, I realized that I can't build it for the same price. It'd cost me as much or more to build it that nice. I could build a cheaper version, sure. But it's yours I want. So it just changes the budget and time-frame. Not once did it occur to me that you might be "ripping me off".
Another such item with a different outcome: the Guy Morenhout Abarth hood. It's just what I want. But by the time I buy his expensive item, and then ship it across the pond.... it's very pricey. So that one I looked at it and said: "I CAN build that for less, and I CAN build it as good". So that'sn the choice I made on that one. Once again: it never crossed my mind that GMR was trying to "Rip Me off".
I agree: there will likely never be a consensus of opinion on this, unless it's between people who are all as smart as we are.

Well I think I am going to make my bumperettes out of jello. That way if they don't work, I can eat them and start over.

this seems to happen after a winter of discontent (rain, snow, cold). Come spring we'll all be laughing and patting each other on the back again

Sorry for being an instigator / escalator.

Maytag. when you get your friend or family member to build you a website for free.. Im sure you will like every other person who owns a website including the owners of this site.. pay for web hosting each month. its $5 month... and yes even though you have to pay your web hosting bill that doesnt change the fact that the web design is free... FREE..
You may keep the site online for 10 years.. and would cost me $600 by then.. Im not that nice. But its still free.. as in you dont have to pay a few hundred bucks. Man you woke up on the wrong side of the bed.
This is text.. there is no tone to my voice.. whining ? really ? Ive never heard text whine.
I didnt say free web design .. free domain and Ill pay your hosting till the end of your life... I didnt say that did I ?
Your the same person you claim to not be able to stand. I could argue with you till the end of time and would win and win and win but you would just never get it.. Just fire back with something irrelevant, unrelated. and off topic.
Now I think we can all agree that the web design is truly free... can we move off that now ?
Im sorry to any bumperette salesman i have offended.
I majored in consumer behavior and have spent much time studying and experimenting with price curves.
Every product has its " market value" Well demonstrated on Ebay when you put up your goods for sale. Most people worry about starting it at one dollar.. But as an ebay shopper when did anyone get a rolex for $20.00 or a nintendo Wii for $15.
it doesnt happen.. everything spikes to its market value. Everytime.. .as a seller or a buyer.
Now the bumperette is a $150 product that is trapped in a $420 price tag.. Im a perfect example.. if it was $150 i would buy a set.. but couldnt do it for $420
My other options are no bumpers... for free..
or brand new chrome fronts and backs for $900
bumperettes left the option list when it hit the $200 range.
Production must be extremely low. and sales must be in the cellar.
If you put bumperettes on ebay starting at $1.00 it would get to $100 bucks plus shipping over and over and over and over again.. It would never flirt in the $200 range... never.. why ? cuz it aint worth it..
and im done talking about bumperettes. its been fun.

and i love your choice in cars maytag... be careful in the snow.. dont eat it if its yellow
Re: bumperettes why are they so expensive?
lost cause.....each of us knows what are efforts are worth. If your product has no value in your mind, it has no value to most others either. With this reasoning, you should never pay for anything, because tomorrow it will be cheaper somewhere else.
Re: bumperettes why are they so expensive?
Im not sure itll be cheaper in the future .. how did you figure that out ?

Restoring/running a Fiat Spider and value for money, are not on the same page, let alone the same sentence.
If you want a good reliable convertible that goes well get an MX5.

Play it smart, and call it 'over', will ya? Before either of us makes the moderator mad?

mad? hahaha. Life is good. I realize when philosophical differences make a subject futile so I'm ready to let this thread go. The next time someone asks me when I'll have bumper blocks on the market I'll just refer them to this thread.
