Nice work. If there's a chrome bezel on the lights, won't it overlap the seam you've created? If so, filling the area would likely look better, IMO.

There's no chrome bezels. I don't even think they make em for the bubble lights. The lights will sit inside the hole like you see on the first pic. I think it would probably look better filled in too.
Re: Tail lights, need your opinions
Okay, I finally found what I wanted after a long almost giving up search. Here are the reverse lights (on the left) and some fog lights for the front (on the right).
I want to inform everyone some info. that I realized in case you are looking to put either fog lights or more light on the back as reverse lights. I was told that a fog light normally has about 55 watts. They are also designed so they won't blind oncoming traffic. Therefore they have a special lens to hold back some of the light. They also only shine about waist height down. What I was told to use would be a work light. The pic is on the left on top. It produces 35 watts. Which gives you the total 35 wattage of light and would light up the whole area. The ones I chose have a lens dia. of 1 7/16". The plastic around its dia. would be about 2 1/2" and could be painted to blend in with the car. I also like these ones since they have the bubble affect that would match the back up lights. They only cost about $22.00 ea. which are a lot cheaper than fog lights. They go on like a bolt would. The have threads on the back with a large plastic nut. They seem to be high quality. Here's where I plan on putting them. I'm also going to lower the license plate and remove the plate lights.
The fog lights I found will be going into the bumper holes and will be mounted like the bumper did inside the front clamp with the rubber sleeve. I will shape the hole to be round like the light. The fog lights are bubble shaped like the rest and will give all the lights a uniform appearance.

Re: Tail lights, need your opinions
Your touching on something I was recently thinking about. I plan on removing my bumpers soon. I was going to make some fiberglass bumperettes, but then thought I would do something similar to yours. I plan on putting turn signal lights in the square holes in the front and some fog lights in the round hole where the bumper shock was. On the back I was either going to but a blanking plate over the bumper shock hole or put some dummy fog lights in the hole but not hook them up.
What if on you setup you put the backup lights in the bumper shock holes and mount your bumperettes in the space between the license plate and the back up lights/bumper shock hole.

You say you're removing the plate lights. What are you going to do for plate lights?

Re: Tail lights, need your opinions
I was going to put bumperettes over the bumper hole. Now I'm thinking of moving the bumperettes a little closer to the plate and customizing a plate light on the inside of the bumperette. I'm also thinking of making the rear bumperette more pronounced then the one I made earlier for it.
Re: Tail lights, need your opinions
After doing some mocking up of the front fog lights, I realize the rear of the fog light is a little larger and would require removal of the rubber grommet in the bumper support. I don't really want to remove it if I was to put the light there. Since it would surround the light casing. I think I might just put the fog lights in the square holes. I will fill it in and cut a round hole to let the fog light just fit through. This was the look the Cobra's had but with their turn signals.
Re: Tail lights, need your opinions
Since you made your own bumperettes and are moving them close to the tag. Maybe you can incorporate the Tag lights and reverse lights in each bumperette? Come to think of it you only need one reverse light.
Sort of like below, excuse my poor photo editing.
Tag Lighst on the side of the bumperette
Reverse Light(s)
One Reverse Light, with a darker housing you would barley notice the light. Also with a "clean" rear you put the emphasis on your new tail lights.

You could use these lighted bolts for the plate lights.

Thanks Htchevyii, I will get the bolts. That's a cool idea and saves me time.
Re: Tail lights, need your opinions
Here's what I did with the fog lights. I made an opening within the patch for the square hole.
Here's what the light will look like in the hole. I'm just going to fill in the bumper hole.

Re: Tail lights, need your opinions
Another update,
I finally got the rear light sockets completed and welded in. Here's some pic's. I still have to grind the drivers side down. I did some spot welds from the front to hold them in place, then welded them from the back. I made the lights straight with each other instead of following the lines of the back. Pic's do them no justice.

Re: Tail lights, need your opinions
I will come in at the end, here is what I did. I did more body work along with the tail lights. I raised the trunk 2 1/2 inches which changed the top of the fender. The bumper is welded from 5 pieces. The lights are Corvette. I used small LED's for the plate light, mounted to the top of the plate recess. They are actually bright enough for backup lights if aimed properly. I have the other Corvette light that is the backup but liked the look of the 4 red tailights. Yes I do get the "It looks like a Corvair" comment occasionally. Keep up the good work.
