the slot is the same, however the fit may not be if the console has had a cap put over it. those glue on caps will make that opening smaller, and near impossible to fit on the factory trim ring around the hole.

fortunately, the console cap can be trimmed, if your are careful not to over do it.

i've notiched that , you can also slam it in and force it down bye foot like i did , an hopefully you dont need ever have to remove the console again because you can't reach the scew under the holder

Hey thanks I will be on the lookout for the coin holder. My console does not have the cap on it. I put one on the dash looks great but the wood dash components are really tight. I had to cut down the glove box door to get it to fit. Thanks for the info and I really like you cup holder.

Cool! I have the rest of the week off after tomorrow, so I'll have yours done by Sat. It's actually going to be better than mine because it will be a little longer, providing a more natural arm rest position. Then I'll make myself another one that matches yours. Do you want a depression between the cup holes for coins to slide around in?

Dave, it depends on what I'm doing. I use a hand held plunge router and I have a router table that I can put it on. If I'm doing shaping on long pieces I use the table. For the 1/4 round on the cup holder edges I do it by hand. Mainly because the wood is soft and I don't want it to get marred pushing it around the table. For a depression like a coin holder area I'll use a template and 1/2" mortising bit. It has a collar that goes around it and keeps you from digging into the edges. Used mainly for door hinge mortising.

rarely require coin in KOW KUNTRY. we still use sea shells and colored rocks for our bartering.... so coin holders would not add much.

however, they won't detract, and certainly not be in the way of the padding. So, if you feel adventuresome, goferit.

As you may remember, I made a cup holder for the car and said I planned to pad it to use as an arm rest. Well, the pad took longer than the cup holder itself, mainly because work kept getting in the way. I had it in at BFI and the comments were all favorable. Which either means it looks OK in person, or the people who didn't like it kept it to themselves.
I've included a picture of the cup holder because the finish wasn't on when I first posted.
It works great in either mode.
Keep in mind, it's the first model. I'll probably do some tinkering with the design later.

I too was pondering the idea of installing a cup holder to my Spider. I envisioned something similar to what our normal cars have, it would have the same leather/vinyl surrounding the 'glove box/cup holder' , it would have a hindged flip top that would either flip to the side or back, it would be covered in the same padded leather, and the box would have an Ipod charger/cord for the radio, it would hold two cups and have room for coin change. So it would look almost factory built when others looked at it also ergonomically elegant... I might do this next Spring when I remove my console to cover and then I'll incorporate the design... look forward to some pics.
