Custom instrument panel
Re: Custom instrument panel
nice looking dash. those seldom used rheostats are right in the correct location (behind your knuckles while driving)... who needs to see those anyway?

Re: Custom instrument panel
amen I almost left them off but they are part of the original equipment. They actually arent too hard to see while driving and are pretty easy to get too but I never used em much anyway. If i use the light rheostat sometimes it shuts off the dash lights altogether so I get it where I want it and leave it alone. My wipers are too slow as it is so I dont slow it down any more lol !
Re: Custom instrument panel
that is the original position for the clock. i keep my hand in that 2 o'clock position, and must move my hand and lean my head around the steer wheel to see what time it is. putting the non-used rheostats there (if you need them at all) was a good idea.

If the dashboard doesn't work out, use the wood and do what I did. A nice oak VW bus.

Peace sign on the tire cover and dead head on the side window. Only wish I could remember those days.
Actually the bumpers are lighter than the original steel ones. They are oak with poplar insides. Better for shock absorbing. The back one is over a year old and shows little wear. Oak wood, stained in golden oak, then 5 coats of outdoor poly. Seems to hold up well.

That's a cool idea but aren't you afraid when the sun hits it you'll be blinded?

I know what you mean. I keep my hood closed in direct sunlight.
