I would be shocked, SHOCKED! to find that the factory was not entirely consistent!

very old post, but i also can confirm that there are two different crankshafts
i also have an automatic and normal gearbox, both 2liters, 1980 spiders
automatic dont have a pilot bearing
normal crankshaft does have a bearing
BUT
you cannot simply put the bearing in the automatic crank, its about 2 milimeters wider.
so to use it, you need a bearing which is 1 mm diameter wider.
or other way around, the boss in the flexplate have to be machines 1 mm smaller...
