This is an interesting thread, reminds me of 20 years ago and thinking IDFs were an upgrade...now I know better :)

IDFs can't compare to fuel injection, even L-jetronic in its tuned-for-economy mapping is more efficient and yields more power on a stock engine. IDFs can't deliver the amount of air/fuel with such accuracy as a FI system, though the sound they make may put a smile on your face. I think someone switching from FI to IDFs would be very disappointed; if not, then their FI wasn't working correctly.

I'd bet you could set up some individual throttle bodies and FI (megasquirt) for similar money to a good IDF set up. Then you'd be talkin best of both worlds. :)

Absolutely. Use IDF throttle bodies on a stock IDF manifold. You could use the stock, or better yet, drill for newer type Bosch injectors. Use megasquirt and a good ignition system. You could be otherwise stock (cams, pistons, etc.) and create a real nice setup; outside of stock, esp. with HC pistons, you could create a monster. I'd love to try this, just need a test mule and a bigger garage.

I also have this in the back of my mind for whenever I feel like playing a bit more with the car. The only doubt that I have is doing it for the same money as the IDFs.
