Body Style Compatibility

Post by Angel0415 »

I am new to this forum and to restoring a '79 fiat spider. Can anyone tell me if the fenders on a '77 are compatible with the '79?

Thanks,

I believe so. Both are big bumper cars.

Most of the parts will interchange also. If you have a question about a part. Just go to IAP and you could put each year into your category for the part. If they have the same part #. They would be the same. :P

Signals are a different design but I doubt that the fenders are impacted design wise. Say you know these do not have bolts that you can remove. The fenders have to be cut out and welded back

Yes, I read another post that said they were welded. I actually am not doing the work, my brother is and I have not mentioned that to him yet...

Thank you everyone for your posts, they have been very helpful as has been the forum itself.

I believe they are spot welded and sometimes braized along the top part. Definitely braized at the lower front center and at the door jamb. Spot welded at the bottom of the fender - frame connection. Good luck.

Yes and no. Yes, the fenders will fit on the body, however as mentioned before the marker light holes are different. The 77 fenders have smaller holes.....so if you put 77 fenders on a 79 body you will have to cut the marker light holes larger in order to fit the later flush style marker lights.

No brazing, all spot welded. Get a spot weld removal bit.
