Budget engine build
Budget engine build
Looks like i was beat to it lol.
So here is what I have to work with.
2 1800's and one 2.0
1 of the 1800s is from my 75 and the other is form a 77 the 2.0 is from a 79
I could either go with the 1800 for a higher revving engine, or the 2.0 for more torque.
I'm thinking around 140-150hp and injected would suit me fine.
The head form the '75 1800 has a port and polish, but the engine needs a rebuild, as a whole it only has ~80k miles on it.
the 2.0 is of unknown condition. When I got it it wasn't running and I haven't tried.
I'm thinking if I can buy the FI equipment off of someone and retrofit it to one of the engines + megasquirt+ EDIS+ cams+ a good header and a good rebuild I can be well on my way.

Re: Budget engine build
who sales these ? i never see them available , I used to purchase KS pistons made in Germany those were theIf used in a 2litre these can give around 9.5:1 with the standard 2 litre head volume, but these have a lower CH than the pistons used in the 2litre euro spec,
best IMO but no longer produced !
Re: Budget engine build
no kidding those pistons sound ideal for a street build.Daniel wrote:who sales these ? i never see them available , I used to purchase KS pistons made in Germany those were theIf used in a 2litre these can give around 9.5:1 with the standard 2 litre head volume, but these have a lower CH than the pistons used in the 2litre euro spec,

Daniel,
I believe we met many years ago at an "car night" event at Merkel's house. I have the gold (Positano Yellow) early 124 Spider. I think you showed me your copy of Guy Croft's book. I too have heard positive comments about the German made KS pistons. Anyway, I thought you were building up an engine for one of the guys at that was there that lives in Ventura - Ventura-Ace. What were the pistons you used in his engine? I thought they were the 8mm domed ones. Were they the KS pistons? I thought Merkel spoke highly of them too. I know this was a few years back. I once spoke with Ace about this, but he didn't really know the origin of the pistons or any other specific details. Even if the KS pistons are no longer produced, I'm sure someone should have some stashed away.

Re: Budget engine build
so, where does one FIND a set of "euro-spec" pistons?
I'm no Boy-Racer..... but if I can't take every on-ramp at TWICE the posted limit.... I'm a total failure!

That is pretty cool that your Dad is still working on cars at his age ! he must enjoy what he is doing good for him .
Ok we need to sponsor the next person going to Europe, send him with a list of parts and some KS Pistons pick up and
stash in his luggage smuggle back here to the states !

Re: Budget engine build
Give him a couple of cars to work on from time to time then we don't want this to happen !then he would have to stay at home with my mum telling him what to do all day then the poor old fella would have a heart attack within a few weeks!
Group buys always sound like a good ideal at first but they seem to get bogged down with so many different options
and specs maybe try doing a feeler post to see who wants in . If you get enough interest to place an order worth doing
I might be interested as well most of the time i go for 85mm 1mm over .

Re: Budget engine build
i would like 9.8 euro spec for the 1800 and if you might have a 81mm 9.8 for a 1608, i realy need only 1 piston. i figured id ask anyway
