A/C any Ideas ???????????
A/C any Ideas ???????????
I just bought my first Fiat its a 1977 Spider 124. I've had it for 3 weeks now, took it down for Ca good old smog test and it passed with flyn colors. I live in the Mohave Desert and its a cool 110 today which brings me to my question. A/C can it be done in this car and if so anybody have any pics or web sites that I can get info on it. I've seen the place in Texas that makes the kit but it cost more than I paid for the car. Has anybody ever retrofitted a a/c system from another make or model car???? Thanks Tim Bought the car on E-bay got it for 1200 bucks its 100 percent original and no rust. The car was listed with 334,456 miles on it but they counted the 10th digit it only has 33446 miles on it. The guy said it'll start but die real fast, no brainer old fuel cleaned the gas tank and replaced the fuel lines it runs great. Anyways any help with the A/C would be great Thanks Tim

Sounds like to got a real bargain. A/C was available on the later FI models, but as a dealer installed option. So even the cars that came new with A/C essentially had an aftermarket type under dash system installed. The problem now, as you point out, is that it is very expensive to retrofit with the kits available on the market. But if you want to be cool...

I lived in the Mojave desert for 10 years with no A/C in any of my cars..... On the fiat its best to take you wind wings and turn them 120 degrees so they act like air scoops to get some wind on you

Re: A/C any Ideas ???????????
So, there does exist an A/C retro kit out there some place? Any idea where these stores are online or other? For that matter is there a one-stop place for Fiat owners who want to convert their cars with fuel injections, bigger tires, etc? Was there a link on this website for custom stuff I didn't see? I am thinking about going to town on mine and need some numbers $$ before I start.
Thank you

My 72 had add on a/c with a huge York compressor. One thing you'll need is an extra groove on your crank pulley to accomodate another belt to drive the compressor. Vintage Air has several different compressors, condensers and so on for a 134A system. You can fit a condenser in front of the radiator inside the grille area but you may run into a problem with finding a small enough one to fit in there.

You could check with Vick's Autosports used parts dept. I sold them a used one that came out of a spider about 5 months ago. Never had it istalled in my car so I'm not sure if it worked or not.

My 78 had AC well it did at one time.. It still had the box under the dash on the passenger side.... I just couldn't figure out how a passenger would fit there too! That was a big box!
1978 Spyder 1800 make that 2L! Finally making real progress!
Re: A/C any Ideas ???????????
I make kits with new modern compressors and the engine brackets to mount them.
The rest of the system is made of generic aftermarket A/C parts (hoses, vents, blower, dryer, evaporator, and condensor) . Usually you can find them cheaper used so I do not stock these parts. If you want new you can try a place like http://www.ackits.com
