I used Ricks plan as a basis for my storage locker. I used 1/2" OSB so that it is slightly lighter than MDF and also more rugged and water proof. I also had the front face carpet fitted along with my new interior. The shelf carpet is matching with edge binding that I flip up when gaining access. I built my box slightly higher so that I could mount 7" speakers on the face just behind the seats (not installed in pics) The flip carpet front will have snap fasteners to stop flapping and or movement when doing 200 plus MPH!. I covered the rear vertical wall with hood liner panel covered with padded leather to match new seats and the rest of the interior. The top is not installed in pics.
Rick... great plans that saves the rest of us a lot of time and effort.

Looks great Jim! I like the way you did the stealth door with the carpet over the top.

Yeah..... That's a beat the Canadian customs stealth door for Spider parts. Your design was the inspiration and I thank you for it.

Cheers

Hopefully there aren't any Canadian Customs agent members of spider.com!

A bit off topic but they do check craigslist and ebay when I bring stuff back and they don't believe the invoices I provide. Last trip down was a pain.. both ways..its getting worse

A cooler... hmmm... good idea! One of the electric ones!

After building mine I find that I use the storage compartment behind the passenger seat every day but I don't really use the one behind the drivers seat that much. It's just to inconvenient to get to. So I plan on re-designing it a little and using the space for a subwoofer enclosure (or maybe a cooler  ).

Keep us updated on your progress.

well if you use the driver side for a sub let me tell you, mine is perfect as a back massage too, get a song that has some bass in it and you can be cruisin down the street looking good in your car while getting the back massage. its a win win situation

Here is a picture I found in the forum, it is at the same height mine is, they just started from the top of the cross member. Looking to the back of the shelf I see the seatbelt retractors, you can see the bracket on my car.

Fingers crossed!
