Retro Radio in new dash and consoles

Post by SpiderJim »

Finally got my radio delivered. The front drops down with a CD player hidden behind. Also has hidden USB and iPod docks for external music. They sent the wrong color. It should have been black but the chrome pops against the new cherrie burl that I just made and looks like a 60's diner. Anyhow, really pleased. Not sure if the period (circa 1960 look is quite correct but I like to be different. I had to undercut the dash lip so that the flip down front panel would work. $ 150.00 and well worth it compared to what you have to pay in Canada. Just a note that it will be wired into the factory connector with an added rear speaker set that no one seems to have known about when dealer installed original. Had to rip out a lot of extra wires due to that.

Nice. I like where you moved the two small controls to the right. What did you use under the carpet. Im tearing into mine right now too. I have new carpet in the garage, thanks to Alvon.

Looks great.

Also want to know about the under carpet question.

--- The controls where meant to go in the radio console but found the light reo to have a huge 2" base so only place to fit them and happy with the result.

Under carpet is 3/8" heat/sound shield towards firewall and tranny tunnel cover and rear seat deck and trunk (heat from exhaust). Rest of floor is in a 1/2" padded jute fiber underpad like original that my upholsterer supplied. Carpets are plush and bound.
