Vitaloni Turbo Racing Mirrors

Post by DoctorPDR »

Well, I finally figured out a solution to my mirror problem. The PO drilled extra holes in the door and placed these "el-cheapo" Vitaloni mirrors leaving the holes exposed -- screws and all. Was he trying to make a fashion statement? This mod still pisses me off to this day and I bought the car over 3 years ago. What an idiot! Here is a picture of that engineering feat:

I'm going to replace the mirrors, but also want to get rubber gasket material in order to custom make a gasket if you will so that I can cover the holes, then mount the new mirrors on top. Any suggestions on where I can get this rubber material at in a sheet?

I found a new pair of mirrors on eBay to fix the PO's engineering marvel. They are brand new Vitaloni Turbo Racing Mirrors and I only paid $60 for the pair. Not a bad price at all, considering that I've seen them selling for well over $100. Here are the pics of my new purchase:

I found a 78 FIAT Spider with the same set-up. Wish it was a closer shot, but it appears to look pretty good. Here is a pic:

I'll take your "el cheapos".

On the rubber seal. Go to your local garden center and ask for a sample of the rubber pond liner. It should 45 mil thick or so and I know it holds water.

"El Cheapos" are YOURS! I'll charge you half of whatever they cost through IAP. They are in EXCELLENT condition.

As far as your suggestion, why didn't I think of that? :D And to think, I built a nice pond outside our bedroom on the back deck of our house, using a pond liner as well.

No intent to hijack the tread, but if anyone wants a set of these Vitaloni Turbo Racing mirrors, I have three NOS pairs in the packaging I'm willing to sell. PM me for more info.

I have your "original" mirrors on my car right now, which was an upgrade from the default 1979 mirrors for me. They seemed clunky and not stylish at all, I love the "el cheapo" mirrors on my car, they're lightweight and classy looking I think.

Looking at those pictures of the mirrors you bought, I wouldn't have liked them at all and never would consider putting them on my car, HOWEVER once seeing the pictures of them actually installed, they look A LOT better, especially on your car, with the paint job and setup you have. I don't think they'd like as good on my car, but good choice!

Aren't those the OEM pre-79 Mirrors? Not cheap at all in my opinion. Just does not fit well on the later years due to the large hole the triangular base is trying to cover up.

In my opinion, the "El Cheapo's" are MUCH, much better looking than those black lumps.
I'm no Boy-Racer..... but if I can't take every on-ramp at TWICE the posted limit.... I'm a total failure!

Thank you Nick, I too think they will look nice. I will post pics when I get them installed.

I will be posting pics soon of my new Turbo Racing mirrors. I'm just waiting for the last order of parts so I can put my interior back together and take my car for a photo shoot. I'm really hoping this will take place next week. I'm miserable not being able to drive the damn car.

Stay tuned.

I know the feeling... reason why I installed the driver seat on mine to be able to take it for a spin around the neighborhood :D

And I took my driver's see out, because it's much easier to work on the dash that way.
