Re: Replacement Horns...
I got some Italian sounding horns that came with a small compressor and air line. The perfect sound for this little car.

We installed a Volkswagen horn on mine. Works fine. Loud beeeeep. I have no idea what happened to the original horn. 20+ years ago things are a little fuzzy. I can check the part if u are interested.
Re: Replacement Horns...
Thanks Mike but I ordered the Hella one I posted in the first post. Will take some pics of it when I get it installed in the car.

Nice! I like the sound of that one. Funny thing ive never heard another fiat horn. Mine always had the Volkswagen horn. Maybe when I get around to working on my fiat I'll make an upgrade.

DoctorPDR - Let us know if you get the compact horn and how the installation goes. With your recent installation experience, inquiring minds will want to know how you make out...

courtenay: I have no problem with sharing my ideas and experience. That's what I love about these forums, is everyone sharing information (as long as it's accurate)! However, I have the older Italian Horn set with the separate compressor already installed. I mounted that adding additional wires, air hose, etc. and really don't see the need in buying this other set UNLESS my existing horns takes a nose dive.courtenay wrote:DoctorPDR - Let us know if you get the compact horn and how the installation goes. So until then, I will make do with what I have.

Re: Replacement Horns...
Sorry, Doc - I misread the thread - thought you were the one looking for replacement horns. Oops. I had the original Fiat air horns in my long gone '72. They were classic!

Re: Replacement Horns...
Mine got hose when trying to remove them from the '83... all the contact tabs broke off. So I will be ordering these to replace them....
but later... first I need to finish the seats, the floor, install the carpet, install the top, install the dash and center console, install the fog lights...

Re: Replacement Horns...
Harbor Freight has some that are just about identical to the originals in looks im not sure about sound. It could be a good deal for 14.99 http://www.harborfreight.com/12-volt-su ... 40134.html
Re: Replacement Horns...
From about 1970 ( if not earlier), the European standard fitment was for twin trumpet "Fiamm" air horns fitted behind the grille with the compresser fitted to the inside of front mudguard / engine compartment.
I am not sure of the date, but I understand that the US bound models had to be fitted with the old electric vibrator type horns on account of the US safety regulations. It was decided "by those that know best" that the air horns had the potential to "frighten" pedestrians. Better for pedestrians to not hear them and get run over, than get a fright !
After all, Beaurecrats always know best !
