Update on paint job

Post by Ken »

A few months ago I started to "just paint" my Fiat, I have been putting it off for a very long time. It was popping out of second gear so I went through the transmission, then decided to go through the engine, got Marks intake, re-made the headers and yes the distributor is going next. When I finish painting the suspension and rear end will be done. You like pictures so here is a few.

Looks awesome, almost exactly like mine. Just an opinion here, Mostly for looks, the 1" timing belt really does look nicer than that factory one. Its got that serious look going for it.

That engine looks beautiful! Can you tell us about the headers? Did you fabricate it or is it from one of our vendors?

Thanks for all the nice replies, I started watching this site because I needed ideas on what to do, I also seen a few things I was thinking about but changed my mind on, overall it’s a good place to get information and new ideas.
The headers started out as a 4 to 1 that I bought from Bayless but they run #4 tube into #2 tube and closed it off by at least a third, it looked like a quarter moon. So I converted it into a 4 2 1, its now 26 inches long and was only 14 inches.

looks great Ken, nice improvement on the header. Those units are close to worthless at 14" tube length. Now you need one of the new distributorless ignition systems to top it off

Just noticed something Ken. First off, I'm just behind you on getting the car painted. Mine is primed and ready for bodywork. I noticed you deleted the door handles. I was thinking of doing this also but haven't had the chance to get to it since it's so cold here. I think it looks sweet. What system are you going to use to open the doors? I've looked into some systems that cost about $200. I can't share them with you just yet. My computer crashed and I have to use my son's. So I don't have my bookmarks to show you. I also deleted the side marker lights and added bubble style corvette lights to the rear. I frenched in fog lights on the front. Here is what the mirrors are going to look like on mine. They are Vitaloni's. It would be the mirror on top. I couldn't wait to see what they would look like. Here's a couple pic's. I would like to see a total side view of your if you wouldn't mind. Your car looks nice and smooth.

In response to Brady Jones

I have been watching the pictures of your car as you post them, really looking good. I wanted to change the tail lights but I need to get this project finished so until another time they stay.
About the door handles, I converted the car to a roadster, no back seat and no windows, just a windshield, to open the door the handle is on the inside just where your hand rests when placed on the door. I retrowed the side lights and the mirrors to the earlier styles.

Hi Ken

Quick question... Did you paint with the doors and hood installed, or did you paint them separately and install them afterwards?

Thanks, and the car's looking great by the way

All I can say is WOW! That looks great. I just noticed the roadster part. Awesome. I can't wait to see more pic's as you progress. Do you have photobucket or something we can check out what you did?
