Preventing Jack-O-dent! I guess many of us have had that and it took a lot of time to fix. Seeing that I'm finishing up my complete restoration I had an idea??. I'm going to place plastic wrap against the inside fender then wrap my jack in 1/2" foam and cardboard around it's perimeter and back then shoot expandable foam all around it to create a fitted and permanent storage place for the jack and tools. This way it looks cool and will never damage the fender ever again. Think of those items you get encased in urethane foam when being shipped. Once hardened you remove the cardboard and shape the face and paint or cover in vinyl. Just remember if you try this not to use anything that will react or melt the foam. Also get the low expansion foam or you may end up with a Jack-O-Bulge!!!
Also, as anyone designed a storage area on either side of the battery box in the trunk? When tearing Blondie down I thought it would be a great place to store spares and other stuff without it crashing around while driving. If you have would love to see pics.

Re: Preventing Jack-O-dent!
Just buying a jack strap from one of the vendors will be cheaper and easier than all that messy foam.
Re: Preventing Jack-O-dent!
Sounds like a plan but it's placing the jack in and out that causes the damage not to mention straps can break and does happen. Foam is not messy if your careful. Thx for the input though...

Jim - How often do you use your jack? Mine seldom moves and the rubber strap is 32 years old, showing no signs of failure. I'm with Matt on this one. Sounds like you're searching for projects!?

Wish mine was protected like that when I got my jack-O-dent, but since then, I've learned my lesson and the thing is tightly bound where it is meant to be.

Good answer... I had to laugh as you are obviously quite correct. My jack was in and out of late due to a lot of work being done on the car plus the rotted strap (desert sun) let go while driving it from my vegas house to my Vancouver house. Now nearing completion of a full restoration and YES! I really need just one more project to subject myself to more pain... Laugh.. But I think it will look coooool!!!!. Will post a pic when I get it done.kilrwail wrote:Jim - How often do you use your jack? Mine seldom moves and the rubber strap is 32 years old, showing no signs of failure. I'm with Matt on this one.
